Alexandre Lacazette will be offered the biggest contract in Lyon’s history as the French club attempt to keep him from Arsenal’s clutches, according to a report.
On Sunday, Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog that the Gunners are negotiating a transfer fee for the striker with the French club.
The London Evening Standard now claim that Lyon will offer the Frenchman a new contract worth more than £125,000-a-week.
That is the figure Yoann Gorcuff was earning before leaving in 2015, with Lacazette to be offered a contract that would be even more lucrative.
The report claims that Lacazette signed a contract last summer worth £70,000-a-week.
French outlet Le 10 Sport claim that the 25-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners as they prepare a second bid for him.
According to the Le 10 Sport report, Lacazette is Arsene Wenger’s priority target as the 66-year-old looks to sign a new striker ahead of the new season.
Arsenal will be without Danny Welbeck for most of the campaign, while Theo Walcott has revealed that he wants to concentrate on playing on the right wing rather than up front, which leaves Olivier Giroud as the team’s only senior striker.
Alexis Sanchez was used as an emergency striker as the Gunners beat Manchester City 3-2 in their final pre-season friendly in Sweden on Sunday night.
Lacazette, who has attracted interest across Europe, was in fine form last season for his current club, scoring 23 goals in his 44 appearances to help guide them to the Champions League.
The forward has only played for Lyon at senior level since his debut in 2010, but has been regularly linked with a move away from the seven-time league winners.
The Ligue 1 Player of the Year for 204-15 has made 10 appearances for his national side, but was not selected for the France Euro 2016 squad despite being part of the preliminary squad.
It was said that Arsenal would table a new bid for Lacazette within days after Lyon revealed via their Twitter account that the London club had bid £29.5million for him last month.
Lacazette limped out of Lyon’s 4-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the French version of the Community Shield on Saturday.
In other Arsenal transfer news, they are set to reignite a £25.6million midfielder pursuit while Liverpool are also interested.
