Lucas Perez is on the verge of signing for Arsenal after they triggered the release clause in his Deportivo La Coruna contract, according to a report.
The Mirror claim on their live transfer blog on Thursday (5.19pm) that the Gunners have offered to meet his £17.1million buy-out clause in one instalment.
It is said that only the formalities of the deal now remain and Perez could fly to London as early as Thursday night to put the finishing touches to the transfer.
The 27-year-old is in line to undergo an Arsenal medical and finalise the terms of a contract with the Premier League giants.
Arsenal appear to have won the race for the prolific Spanish striker after hijacking Everton’s move for the player.
Spanish newspaper Sport claimed on Wednesday that Everton would pay the £17million release clause in his contract before doubling his wages, which would total around £32,000-a-week.
But it then emerged that Arsenal had made a late move for the player as Arsene Wenger tries to reinforce his attack before the transfer window shuts next week.
Alexis Sanchez has spearheaded the Gunners attack in their opening two Premier League matches of the season, while Olivier Giroud works his way back to fitness after Euro 2016.
Perez joined Deportivo last summer for £1.3million after spending the previous season on loan from PAOK.
The forward was in superb form last season and his 17 La Liga goals helped Deportivo escape the drop from Spain’s top flight.
In all competitions he scored 19 goals and supplied 11 assists from just 39 matches for the Spanish club.
In other Arsenal transfer news, the Gunners have joined the chase for a Newcastle regular.
