Derby County have tabled a £7million bid for Sheffield Wednesday star man Fernando Forestieri, according to a report.
Sky Sport claimed on their transfer blog (7.07pm) that Nigel Pearson’s side have made the formal offer for the highly rated striker.
Argentina-born Forestieri scored the winner in the Owls’ opening game of the season on Sunday as Wednesday beat Aston Villa 1-0.
Derby boss Pearson is looking to bring the 26-year-old Italian to Pride Park in the hope he can spearhead a title charge for the side from the east Midlands.
Forestieri has set the Championship alight since his £3million move from Watford in 2015, scoring 15 goals in last season’s campaign for Wednesday.
The man who developed through the Boca Juniors ranks went on to play for the likes of Genoa, Malaga, Bari and Empoli before his move to England with Watford in 2012, while on loan from Udinese, which saw him impress and earn a permanent move.
The 5ft 8in striker played a leading role in getting The Owls to the play-off final last season and Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal will be desperate to keep hold of his forward.
Forestieri is under contract at Hillsborough until June 2019, so he will not go cheaply if he is to be sold.
In other Sheffield Wednesday news, a defender has signed for the Owls after settling terms.
