Frank de Boer’s agent Guido Albers has revealed that Barcelona are looking at Everton manager Ronald Koeman.
Dutchman Koeman took charge of the Merseyside club in the summer when he left Premier League rivals Southampton.
The former Barcelona man has since established himself as a key member of the Toffees team, helping them sit comfortably in the top seven after they struggled for the majority of the last campaign.
Koeman has also masterminded impressive wins against the likes Arsenal, Southampton and beating Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 4-0 at Goodison Park this term.
Here is de Boer’s agent commenting on Koeman and European giants Barcelona.
“I think the club has in mind other managers,” Albers told TUTTOmercatoWEB, “Like Koeman, now at Everton.”
Luis Enrique is the current manager at the Catalan club, having won the Champions League and La Liga title during his time as boss.
However, at this moment in time, Barca are one point behind their bitter rivals and league leaders Real Madrid in the table, with Zidane’s side also having two games in hand.
Football Insider verdict:
This news is no surprise given Koeman’s history with Barcelona. Everton will be left powerless if the Spanish giants come knocking for the highly-rated coach. At this moment in time, he is doing a very good job at the Toffees, with the future looking very bright for the Merseyside club. However, Koeman is a club legend at Barca and is regarded as one of the best players to have graced the Nou Camp pitch. Therefore, being part of that history, Koeman’s head will be turned if the call comes. Until then, Everton should make the most of his coaching abilities and aim to grow their squad. European football, even Champions League football, should be a target for a club like Everton. They have a big fan base, history and a very good manager. All they need to do is build on their current crop of talented stars.
In other Everton news, this midfield enforcer could return for the Toffees clash against Middlesbrough.
