Elseid Hysaj has agreed a new contract with Napoli, according to the player’s agent.

Arsenal were interested in the defender during the summer and French website Le 10 Sport reported that a £14.8million bid was submitted.

Hysaj, 22, opted to stay with Napoli and his agent Mario Giuffredi has confirmed a new deal has been agreed with the Italian side.

“We’ve already signed everything and the contract has been deposited,” Giuffredi told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as quoted by talkSPORT. “[President Aurelio] De Laurentiis will decide when to Tweet it. The extension includes an option until 2022.”

Hysaj is an Albanian international and has already made 23 appearances for them.

The right-back was a star performer for his nation at Euro 2016 and caught they eye of several European clubs, with heavyweights Barcelona and Atletico Madrid interested.

He has now made 50 appearances for Napoli and is considered a crucial part of the team by manager Maurizio Sarri.

Arsenal currently have a talented first-choice right-back in Hector Bellerin and he has impressed under Arsene Wenger.

The Spaniard was named in the PFA’s Team of the Year last season as he continued his development with the Gunners.
