Christian Benteke’s agent has claimed that there is “nothing” in reports that the Belgium striker is on the brink of leaving Liverpool this summer.
Kismet Eris, who was Benteke’s intermediary in the £32.5million deal that took him to Anfield last summer, insists his client wants to stay at the Reds and fight for his place this season.
This unexpected claim comes amid widespread reports that Benteke has agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace after a new bid was lodged last week of £27million plus £4.5million of add-ons.
The powerful striker is said to have just finished one holiday following Belgium’s Euro 2016 campaign and that he is still due more time off before his return to Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season preparations.
“There is nothing in these reports,” Kismet confirmed to Sky Sports News, while he reiterated that the 25-year-old is just one year into a five-year deal at Anfield.
Benteke scored 42 goals in 89 appearances during his time at Villa, but that form dipped after his big-money move to Anfield, which saw him net on nine occasions in 29 games in all competitions for the club.
The Belgium international is just one in a long list of failed forwards at Anfield since the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona in 2014 and despite having four years left to run on his current deal, he too could be on his way out of the club this summer.
In other Liverpool news, former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger has started training with the Reds.
