Alan Shearer was delighted with Newcastle’s 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday but worries his old club took too long to appoint Rafael Benitez.
The Newcastle legend took to Twitter to give his approval of a memorable comeback in which Benitez’s side battled from 2-0 down against Liverpool to claim a crucial point.
The Magpies are currently fighting relegation after a dismal season and appointed former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Benitez in March in the hope he would steer them to safety.
The Magpies remain second from the bottom of the table, but are now just one point away from potentially lifting themselves out of the drop zone.
Shearer tweeted after the match his relief at the team picking up an unlikely away point, but issued a warning to his fellow Newcastle supporters.

Papiss Cisse pounced on a blunder by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to get Newcastle back into the contest just after half-time before Jack Colback forced home the equaliser with a deflected shot less than 20 minutes later.
Benitez’s appointment has failed to inspire Newcastle as much as fans would have liked with just one victory in his seven games in charge and three defeats.
However, the Spaniard will be hoping the result will act as a tonic for his side’s remaining three games as they look to beat Norwich and Sunderland to 17th position thus preserving their top flight status.
In other Newcastle news, Moussa Sissoko gave his reaction to the draw on Twitter.
