Dele Alli could be rested for Tottenham’s derby showdown at West Ham on Wednesday night, Football Insider sources understand.
Spurs are ready to give a breather to the key midfielder, who had ankle problems during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea.
Alli is also only one of two players in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad – the other is Kevin Wimmer – to have started the team’s last five matches.
Speaking at his media briefing on Tuesday, Pochettino said he would make a late decision on whether to start Alli in Wednesday night’s Premier League showdown at Upton Park.
“He had problems before and during the game [against Swansea],” explained Pochettino. “He’s okay but we’ll assess tomorrow and decide.”
The manager is expected to once again ring the changes as Tottenham continue to navigate a busy fixture list.
Pochettino will have half an eye not only on the trip to Upton Park, but also the pivotal north London derby against Arsenal on Saturday.
Mousa Dembele (groin) is still unavailable, but Tom Carroll is fit again, while Ryan Mason, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies and Nacer Chadli will come into contention to start at West Ham after being on the bench for the last-gasp win over on Swansea.
Tottenham (possible): Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies; Dier, Mason; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane.
