Gabriel is set to be sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury, Football Insider sources understand.
The Arsenal defender is undergoing treatment in Brazil as he recovers from the injury that forced him out of the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Leicester on Sunday.
An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that the club’s medical staff expect Gabriel to spend an extended spell on the sidelines after being assessed at the club’s London Colney headquarters.
He will miss the Gunners’ FA Cup fifth-round clash against Hull at Emirates Stadium on Saturday as well as the pivotal fixtures next week against Barcelona in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League showdown and the Premier League trip to Manchester United five days later.
It is a blow to manager Arsene Wenger, who had selected Gabriel for three consecutive matches in the centre of the defence before he was ruled out of the Leicester match.
In other Arsenal injury news, Laurent Koscielny should be back at the weekend after sustaining a dead leg in the first half of the Leicester clash, which forced the club into a half-time substitution. The Frenchman was replaced by youngster Calum Chambers at the break.
Kieran Gibbs is also hopeful of making a swift recovery after turning his ankle in training last week.
