Arsenal must include Alexis Sanchez if they are to complete a deal for Atletico Madrid wonderkid Jose Giminez, according to a report.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the £40-million rated defender was on manager Arsene Wenger’s radar as a long-term replacement for injured duo Per Mertersacker and Gabriel.

Spanish outlet Don Balon now claim that the Gunners are unable to compete financially with the 21-year-old’s other suitors, which are believed to be Manchester City and Real Madrid.

However, the La Liga club would consider a deal that includes Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez, who has reportedly told Arsene Wenger he wants to quit the club.

The news will come as a blow to Arsenal fans, as manager Wenger continues in his hunt for a centre-back, and the 66-year-old Frenchman could look elsewhere if he cannot strike a deal without including his Chilean superstar.

Arsenal were left with the inexperienced pairing of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding in defence on Sunday afternoon as they slumped to a 4-3 opening day defeat against Liverpool.

Gimenez, who has key Champions League experience, featured in 37 games in all competitions last season for Atletico and picked up nine yellow cards throughout the campaign.

The youngster has already played 84 matches in his short career, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process.

The former Danubio FC star has two years remaining on his current deal but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

In other Arsenal transfer news, this attacker is set for a medical after agreeing a deal with the Gunners.
