Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of the clash against Manchester City this Sunday as he is still recovering from injury.

Arsene Wenger confirmed the 25-year-old will not feature in the blockbuster Premier League fixture but is close to making a return and is expected back in training soon.

Ramsey has been absent since the start of the month when he picked up an injury following the 4-1 victory against Basel in the Champions League.

Prior to that, he had suffered a lengthy spell on the sidelines at the start of the 2016-17 campaign and appeared just once between August and October.

The Welshman was sensational in the European Championships in the summer, helping his country reach the semi-finals of the competition.

However, injury set-backs have littered his season with Arsenal so far and when he has been fit he has struggled to get into the side due to high competition for places.

Granit Xhaka and Mohammed Elneny’s arrival has reduced Ramsey’s appearances to just 10 this season and he has only started two Premier League matches.

His last league start came against Manchester United during the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in November and it was the first of just three occasions in which he has completed the full 90 minutes this season.

Ramsey has struggled with injuries throughout his Arsenal career but when on top form, he has been one of the best players in the squad and the 2013-14 season was one of his best, when he scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in 34 appearances.
