Mohammed Elneny was substituted in the 74th minute of Arsenal’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough- and fans on Twitter voiced their disappointment in his performance.
The Gunners missed the chance to open a lead at the top of the table on Saturday afternoon, as Aitor Karanka’s side produced a solid defensive display at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s side top the league table by one point, with second-place Manchester City, due to play Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
With 16 minutes left on the clock, Wenger decided to make an attacking substitution, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought on to add some attacking threat, but to no avail.
Supporters were critical of Elneny by stating he was rubbish as usual, as Boro stopped the north London club from winning their seventh league game on the bounce.
Fans felt midfield duo Elneny and Francis Coquelin constantly passed the ball sideways, as Wenger’s side dropped crucial points at home.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
elneny – coquelin making sideways passes on the edge of opposition box is the worst thing i've seen all season

Subbing Ox in for Elneny was dumb.

Elneny has played five league games for Arsenal this season, starting only two, as Wenger has opted to field Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Granit Xhaka ahead of him.
