Mohamed Elneny has been named on the bench against Basel – and Arsenal supporters are disappointed on Twitter with the decision.

The 24-year-old midfielder has missed out on the starting line up against his former club Basel in the Champions League group game.

Arsene Wenger has made two changes from Saturday’s match against Chelsea with Granit Xhaka and David Ospina coming into the side.

Petr Cech and Francis Coquelin have been dropped from the team, with the latter sustaining an injury against Chelsea on Saturday.

Arsenal announced their line up on their official Twitter account.

Elneny is competing for a starting position in a highly competitive midfield and has made just five appearances so far this season.

The Gunners have preferred Santi Cazorla and Coquelin in their opening group games and have used Xhaka for the European clash, but still Welshman Aaron Ramsey to return from injury.

Elneny moved to the Emirates in January and has made 20 appearances so far for the club, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.

Arsenal supporters have expressed their frustration on Twitter that Elneny has been left out of the starting XI on Wednesday night.

In other Arsenal team news, a BBC pundit believes that these three players can drive the club to the Premier League title this season.
