After pictures emerged of Jurgen Klopp watching Gonzalo Higuain in action for Argentina, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to express their envy.

Higuain, who has been linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, played for Argentina in their Copa America opener against Chile on Monday night, following a season where the forward broke the record for goals scored in a single Serie A season with a stunning 36 strikers.

As reported by Football Insider earlier on Tuesday, one of those watching in the stands was Liverpool boss Klopp and the overall reaction from Arsenal fans in the hours to come was less than positive.

Although the Gunners have made an offer of around £20m for Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, this season’s second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League has set off for Euro 2016 in France without informing either club of his decision.

Some Arsenal fans on Twitter have responded to this silence by comparing the player to other strikers linked with rival clubs, such as Higuain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alvaro Morata, and others have compared the appeal of the charismatic Klopp to that of Arsene Wenger.

Here are selection of the messages on Twitter:
