Mesut Ozil wants to be handed the No10 shirt at Arsenal – and supporters on Twitter expressed that he should be given the iconic number.
German outlet Bild state that the 27-year-old, who is set to extend his contract by two years to 2020, wants to wear the shirt even though Jack Wilshere currently has the number.
But Wilshere is on a season-long loan at Bournemouth and Ozil would like to take on the iconic shirt number that he wears for Germany and also sported during his time at Real Madrid.
Arsenal supporters were looking forward to their playmaker wearing the shirt number, by stating the best number ten in the world should wear the shirt bearing that number.
Another fan predicted that Ozil will now perform even better, if he switches squad numbers, with the midfielder providing 43 assists in 124 games for the north London club since his move from Madrid in 2013.
However, others felt Wilshere should make the decision on his shirt number being given to Ozil, as it would be disrespectful to not include the England midfielder in the discussions.
Supporters felt that the north London club should remain loyal to its own, as Ozil is now expected to take on his shirt number.
Here is a selection of messages from Arsenal fans on Twitter reacting to Ozil wanting to wear the number ten shirt:
