Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is unhappy with his backup role at the club – and fans on Twitter have hit back.

The France international has lost his place in the side to the in-form Alexis Sanchez and has voiced his discontent.

According to the Daily Star, Giroud is set to meet with manager Arsene Wenger to discuss his role within the team.

Giroud, 30, has yet to start a game for Arsenal this season, and played just 21 minutes of the north London derby clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

But he could return to the line-up for The Gunners’ next Premier League match with Manchester United – due to Sanchez’s absence.

The Chile forward has suffered a low grade muscular injury, and may not be fit enough to start at Old Trafford.

In response to Giroud’s claims, Arsenal fans have responded on Twitter in dismissive fashion, suggesting the striker does not actually deserve a place in the starting XI.

Here are some of the responses from fans:

Giroud has just 18 months left on his contract at The Emirates, and unless Wenger can assure him of a better role in the first-team, he will be pushing for a move elsewhere.

He is currently on international duty with Euro 2016 runners-up France, for whom he has scored 21 goals in 57 internationals – including eight goals from 12 games this year.

In other Arsenal news, former first-team regular Jack Wilshere has hinted he may leave the club in the summer.
