Arsenal drew 1-1 with Tottenham at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon – and fans on Twitter hailed Granit Xhaka’s performance.

The Gunners took the lead in the first-half when Spurs centre-back Kevin Wimmer converted into his own net just before the break.

But the returning Harry Kane, who has now scored five league goals against Arsenal converted from the penalty spot after Laurent Koscielny fouled Moussa Dembele.

Defensive-midfielder Xhaka, who was playing in his first north London derby failed to inspire his team to victory after taking the lead, despite fans hailing his heroic display.

The 24-year-old had only returned from a three-match suspension, but the Gunners were forced to settle the points with their bitter rivals.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Xhaka has now played 13 Premier League, EFL Cup and Champions League games for Wenger’s side this season scoring three goals, but he is yet to provide an assist.

Nonetheless, Arsenal are third in the league table with 24 points from 11 games, one point behind leaders Chelsea who thrashed Everton 5-0 on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, Spurs remain in fifth place with 21 points as they still unbeaten in the league, but they have recorded six league draws out of 11 games.

In other Arsenal team news, a reliable journalist has stated why Tottenham’s Dele Alli missed the north London derby.
