Arsenal have joined Tottenham and Chelsea in the race to sign Sergio Aguero should the forward opt for a move away from Manchester City and fans reacted with shock and amusement on Twitter.

Spanish publication, Don Balon claimed the Gunners are keeping tabs on the Manchester City star despite interest from their London neighbours.

The 28 year-old is believed to be assessing his options after appearing to become out of favour with new manager Pep Guardiola.

Aguero, once a crucial addition to the Manchester City starting line-up, was dropped to the bench for their Premier League clash against Everton earlier this month.

He was then kept out of the starting XI yet again as City faced Barcelona in the Champions League and was only used as a late substitution against rivals, Manchester United.

Arsenal could look to take advantage of Aguero’s situation and take the striker away from their Premier League rivals in January should the opportunity arise.

Aguero made the switch to Manchester City for £38 million in 2011 and has scored 147 goals in 220 matches – including a late stoppage time goal which sealed City’s first Premier League title for over 40 years.
