Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle it out for unhappy Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, according to a report.

The Sun claims that the two London clubs are on red alert for the 23-year-old, who only completed a move back to Madrid in the summer.

The La Liga giants activated a £23million buy-back clause following his sale to Juventus in 2014, where he bagged 12 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 encounters last season.

He agreed a five-year deal at the Bernabeu, but his current position was one of the main factors to why he left the Spanish capital after finding himself behind Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the club’s pecking order.

Chelsea were heavily linked with the 15-time capped Spain international in the summer with former Juventus boss Antonio Conte now at Stamford Bridge.

However, Arsenal are also on the look out for a striker after the addition of forward Lucas Perez from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna in the summer.

The Gunners have moved Alexis Sanchez into an advanced role in the new campaign also, with striker Olivier Giroud in and out of form.

It is also believed that Arsene Wenger is keen to purchase an upgrade on the France international.

In other Arsenal transfer news, Mesut Ozil has demanded the Gunners sign more players and that he is handed the No10 shirt during contract talks with the club.
