Arsenal have held talks in London to discuss signing N’Golo Kante from Leicester this summer, according to a report from France.

The recently capped France international, who is expected to feature at this summer’s European Championships, is the subject of interest from a host of top clubs on the back of a sensational debut Premier League season.

The midfielder, 25, was a driving force in Leicester’s momentous title triumph after signing from Caen last summer.

According to France Football, a meeting took place in recent days in London in which Arsenal held discussions about prising Kante from Leicester.

It is said that the Frenchman has a £20million release clause in his contract and that the Gunners could be interested in triggering it.

Wenger is ready to pair a new central midfield signing with Mohamed Elneny, who has emerged as the first choice in the centre of the park in the final months of the season.

Arsenal’s other main midfield target is highly rated Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.

As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday, Arsenal have stepped up their bid to sign Xhaka in a £65million deal.

The Gunners are willing to pay £34million for the central midfielder as well as hand him a five-year, £120,000-a-week contract.

Arsenal are in pole position to land the Borussia Mochengladbach midfielder as they target a proven player who can dominate in the middle of the park.

In other Arsenal transfer news, the Gunners are expected to field a £25million offer this week for one of their star names.
