Arsenal will field a strong line-up in Wednesday night’s League Cup showdown against Tottenham, Football Insider sources understand.

Arsene Wenger will name a number of first-team stars in his team for the clash against the Gunners’ bitter rivals at White Hart Lane.

Olivier Giroud is set to spearhead the Gunners’ attack, while England stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Calum Chambers are expected to be joined in the starting X1 by Mathieu Debuchy and club captain Mikel Arteta.

However, Arsenal will be without midfielder Francis Coquelin. “His knee is swollen and he is being assessed but we hope it is just a short-term problem,” explained Wenger on Tuesday.

The manager is also expected to name a strong bench for the third-round clash, even though the Gunners have three matches in eight days starting with Saturday’s trip to in-form Leicester.

Arsenal host Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday of next week followed by a mega-clash against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium five days later.

The League Cup is usually far down Wenger’s list of priorities but the manager recognises the team need a morale-boosting victory following consecutive defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Dinamo Zagreb.

In other Arsenal news, Diego Costa is expected to be hit with a three-match ban after being charged with violent conduct for lashing out at Laurent Koscielny during last Saturday’s controversial encounter at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners lost 2-0.
