Mesut Ozil has more Premier League assists this season than any other player.

The German climbed above David Silva in the assists chart when Olivier Giroud rose above the Everton defence to head in his right-flank cross and put Arsenal 1-0 up in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

Ozil has now delivered seven assists from nine Premier League matches in 2015-16, which put the Arsenal man ahead of Manchester City’s Silva (six in five), Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez (five) and Norwich’s Wes Hoolahan (five).

Ozil, who scored Arsenal’s second as they beat Bayern Munich 2-0 on Tuesday, maintained his excellent run of form at Emirates Stadium on Saturday by clipping a delightful ball on to the head of the recalled Giroud after 36 minutes. The Gunners added a second two minutes later when Laurent Koscielny headed in Santi Cazorla’s left-wing free-kick.

Ozil is in his best run of form since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 for a club-record£40million fee.

This will also give his representatives negotiating power as the playmaker steps up talks with the club on an extension to his contract, which expires in two-and-a-half years’ time.

Ozil wants a £50,000-a-week pay rise that will lift his salary to £180,000-a-week and make him comfortably the team’s best-paid player.
