Lucas Perez has admitted he was expecting to feature more for Arsenal when he joined in the summer and was under the impression he would have a “starring role.”

Arsenal’s new forward joined as part of a £17million deal from Deportivo Coruna but has started just two league games for the club.

He featured in the EFL Cup clash against Nottingham Forest and scored twice but has only featured against Southampton and Hull for his side in the Premier League.

“When I first arrived here I expected to have more of a starring role,”Perez told Spanish radio station Onda Cero, as reported by the Daily Mail. “The teammates that are playing in my position are doing a great job though.

“We have won seven games in a row and at the end of the day, the coach wants what is best for the team.

“I had hoped to have more playing time, but what I have to do now is make the most of the opportunities I get.”

Perez scored 17 goals in 35 games whilst playing for Deportivo in La Liga last season and many Arsenal fans were excited to see his talents at Emirates Stadium.

However, the form of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez has limited his chances and the duo were once again in good shape as Arsenal battered Ludogorets 6-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Champions League victory was their seventh straight victory and the Gunners’ will be hoping to make it eight when the face Middlesbrough in the Premier League this weekend but Perez is not expected to feature.
