Daley Blind has emerged as a shock transfer target for Arsenal, according to reports.

Blind’s place has been cast into doubt since Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford even though the versatile Dutchman excelled alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of the United defence this season.

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Mourinho wants to sell Blind as he believes the 26-year-old, at 5ft 9in, is too small to be a centre-back.

This is said to have alerted Arsene Wenger, who is an admirer of Blinds composure and versatility.

The former Ajax captain is a surprising target for Wenger given that Arsenal and United rarely do transfer business.

Only Mikael Silvestre and Danny Welbeck have moved from Old Trafford to the Emirates in the last 10 years.

The Frenchman wants to make him the second signing at the Emirates Stadium this summer following the £34million signing of Granit Xhaka.

Blind will also face a fight to even start for United next season after the £30million signing of Eric Bailly from Spanish side Villarreal.

However, it seems that Blind wants to remain at Old Trafford and is focused on proving his worth.

He recently said: “I think he’s a coach (Mourinho) who’s achieved a lot and I’m very excited to work with someone like him. I’m going do my best and work very hard.”

Blind made 35 Premier League appearances in the 2015-16 season, with the majority being at the heart of United’s defence, and he can also play at left-back and defensive midfield.

United only conceded 35 goals all season in the Premier League, the equal meanest in the top flight alongside Tottenham. They also kept 18 clean sheets, the most in the league.

In other Arsenal news, Wenger is looking to bring in Napoli’s £15 million right-back.
