Alex Iwobi is hoping to push his way into the starting line-up for Arsenal this season following his impressive display in team’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

The 20-year-old scored the equalising goal for the north Londoners at the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg as they turned the game round to overcome their fellow title challengers ahead of the Premier League curtain raiser this weekend.

Iwobi, who scored six times and claimed five assists in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men last season is determined to push on this season and star for the Gunners.

Arsenal open their campaign on Sunday when they host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

“The challenge for me is to play as many games as I can, and to try to use the opportunities that I get. Hopefully, like today, I can try to get as many goals and assists as I can,” Iwobi told the official Arsenal website.

“When Theo made that run I started sprinting for my life. I wanted to get that goal, so when it came across and saw it come to my feet I thought, ‘I have to take my chance and make sure I hit the target’. Luckily for me it went in.”
Iwobi is fighting for a starting place alongside proven international stars like Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere for a place on the Arsenal flanks.
Ahead of the mouthwatering showdown against Liverpool, Iwobi is confident the squad is in fine-fettle heading into the campaign:
“We have done very well in our games. We just need to use that confidence throughout the season. We’re all good, everyone’s good, everyone’s smiling and everyone’s happy. Now we’re just looking forward to the season.”
