Asmir Begovic will complete an £8million move to Chelsea on Friday with Marco van Ginkel included in the deal, Football Insider sources understand.
Chelsea’s second bid for the goalkeeper was accepted last week and the deal has now been finalised for the Bosnian to join as Thibaut Courtois’ No2.
Stoke have been pushing for a player from Jose Mourinho’s squad to be included as part of the transfer and the Londoners have given the go-ahead for Van Ginkel to move to the Britannia Stadium on a season-long loan.
The Holland international, who plays in central midfield, is highly rated by Mark Hughes and his staff.
As revealed by Football Insider, the west Londoners reached an agreement some time ago with Begovic on a four-year contract worth £70,000-a-week.
Chelsea then made an opening bid of £6million that was rejected by Stoke and returned to the negotiating table with an £8million offer.
The Potters wanted to hold out for a higher fee but were told that was Chelsea’s highest offer for a player who only has a year remaining on his contract.
Jose Mourinho has identified Begovic as the goalkeeper he wants to understudy Courtois after Petr Cech was announced as an Arsenal player last week following his £11million transfer from Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho has made it clear to the Chelsea hierarchy that he wants a proven shot-stopper as back-up to Courtois in case the young Belgian is not available.
Hughes has a ready-made replacement for Begovic in young Englishman Jack Butland, 22.
