Gary Gardner has been named in the English Football League team of the week, after Aston Villa beat Reading 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday.
The central midfielder gave a composed performance in the heart of his side, allowing forward’s Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew to get on the score sheet, with the latter bagging a penalty in stoppage time.
The 24-year-old started the match in a three-man midfield and played the full 90 minutes alongside Mile Jedinak and Leandro Bacuna.

Solihull-born Gardner has made eight appearances in all competitions this term, with Villa struggling in the early stages of their Championship campaign.
Bruce’s side are now sat in 18th place in the league table, with 14 points from 11 fixtures having won just two matches so far.
They will host Fulham at Villa Park on Saturday, who are going steady and are currently sat in 11th place.
The Midlands outfit will be keen to push on up the league table as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
In other Aston Villa team news, Jack Grealish has been suspended for three matches following a stamp against Wolves.
