Jordan Ayew finished as Ghana’s top scorer with three goals as he helped the country qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

As reported by Ghannasoccernet, Aston Villa striker Ayew helped his country top Group H as they comfortably sealed their qualification for the AFCON tournament, which begins on January 14.

Ayew scored his goals against Mozambique and Mauritius (2), with the versatile attacker beating Asamoah Gyan and Newcastle attacker Christian Atsu to the top-scoring charts for his country.

It means Villa will be without their versatile attacker for important fixtures against Wolves, Preston, Bristol City, Brentford and Nottingham Forest at a critical point in the season

The 24-year-old has failed to score in five Championship games this season, with his only goal coming in the 3-1 defeat against fourth-tier side Luton Town in the EFL Cup.

Ayew has been utilised as a right-sided attacker by manager Roberto Di Matteo this term, after he previously played on the left for the majority of the last campaign.

However, he will now face stiff competition for a first-team place after Villa signed his fellow countryman Albert Adomah on deadline day and £15 million forward Jonathan Kodjia.
