Steve Bruce has revealed Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards will miss Sunday’s clash with Birmingham City at St Andrews.

The 55-year-old manager also stated that winger Albert Adomah will travel with the squad for the weekend fixture, after coming off the bench to provide an assist in the 1-0 win over Fulham.

Former centre-back Bruce, who managed the Blues from 2001-07, winning two promotions, will step foot into the opposition dugout, as he returns to his old stomping ground.

The former Hull City boss explained why the club’s senior duo will miss the highly anticipated encounter at the weekend.

“It’s too early for Elphick and Richards,” Bruce told his Thursday press conference, as quoted by the club’s official Facebook page. “Adomah is fine, so he’ll be in the squad.”

Defensive duo Elphick and Richards both picked up injuries in the second-half of the 1-1 draw with Wolves in early October.

Club captain Elphick has played 12 league games for the Midlands side this season, while Richards has played just three games, but did start in Bruce’s first game as boss.

Winger Adomah has made seven appearances, being on the losing side only once, as he has supplied two assists.

In other Aston Villa team news, this striker could be axed when Villa take on their second City rivals Birmingham.
