Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is in talks to join French giants Marseille on a season-long loan – which has left the Midlands clubs’ fans baffled.
Veretout is the third Villa player targeted by the Ligue 1 outfit in recent weeks.
As reported by Football Insider, the French club are interested in bringing in Carlos Sanchez to France, while they also held talks with Idrissa Gueye.
The Midlands outfit produced their worst top-flight performance last season when they secured three wins, 17 points and inevitably were relegated into the second-tier of English football for the first time in nearly three decades.
Villa fans could not understand why the French club wanted to sign yet another Villa midfielder who was part of a relegated team.
One supporter felt that there was no logic behind his loan deal as a season in Ligue 1 will not help him develop, nor will it help the cause of the Midlands club.
Many were pleased with the news and urged manager Roberto Di Matteo to replace the midfielders once their deals are complete.
Here are their reactions on Twitter:
If we’re letting Gana, Veretout + Sanchez go then we need at least 2 new CM to come in #avfc

Marseille’s dogged pursuit of an #AVFC midfielder has been amusing. First Gueye, then Sanchez, now Veretout. Westwood next?

Marseille determined to make their midfield average, first Gueye, then Sanchez, now Veretout! How about a Westwood!! #avfc

Id like to keep Westwood. He will be decent in the championship. Veretout and Sanchez can both go. #avfc

Marseilles want Sanchez & Veretout? I’m guessing they haven’t done their research on Villa’s midfield. Maybe they’ll take Lescott too! #avfc

I’m not sure I see the point of loaning Veretout. He wasn’t great, but he’s hardly going to adapt to enough football in loan in France #AVFC

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Roberto Di Matteo is keen to bring in a 27-goal hot shot to the Championship, the player has a £24 million release clause.
