Aston Villa fans were pleasantly surprised on Twitter after forgotten man Gabriel Agbonlahor made a late appearance against rivals Birmingham City.
The forward has failed to make a single appearance for the Midlands giants for more than seven months, after a spate of controversial incidents.
However, new manager Steve Bruce has given the 30-year-old star another chance at Villa Park, after placing him on a separate training routine to help him regain his fitness.
Three-time England international Agbonlahor came on for the final 10 minutes during Sunday’s fixture, as Steve Bruce’s side earned a 1-1 draw away at St Andrews.
Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to reveal that they were impressed with Agbonlahor when he was introduced from the bench, with many surprised that he was looking sharp.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Agbonlahor was deemed unfit at the end of the club’s relegation campaign in 2015/16, as criticism from supporters led to the boyhood Villa fan giving up the captaincy.
The draw against Gary Rowett’s side leaves Villa in 15th place in the Championship table, as Bruce continues his unbeaten start to life at Villa Park following two wins against Reading and Fulham.
In other Aston Villa news, fans have also reacted on Twitter to this international star’s combative performance.
