Tim Sherwood is close to completing a move to replace Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Queen’s Park Rangers, and Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter.
The London Evening Standard revealed that Sherwood was closing in on a return to management after being sacked as Villa boss in October 2015.
Hasselbaink was axed after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, which has left the former Premier League outfit in 17th place and just six points above the relegation zone.
With just 14 wins from 47 matches in all competitions, QPR chiefs will be hoping Sherwood can reproduce the kind of form that saw Villa reach the final of the FA Cup in 2015.
Aston Villa fans have reacted comically on Twitter to the imminent appointment of Sherwood, with many showing sympathy for QPR while others were delighted to see the 47-year-old back in management.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Sherwood, who has also taken charge of Tottenham during a short managerial career, won just 10 of his 28 league and cup encounters during his time at Villa Park.
Despite finishing as runners up in the 2014-15 FA Cup after a 4-0 loss to Arsenal, Sherwood was replaced by Remi Garde.
