Aston Villa trio Stiliyan Petrov, Tommy Elphick and Jordan Amavi trained with the first team on Monday – and supporters on Twitter were overjoyed with the news.
Former captain Petrov has returned to the senior set-up after being diagnosed with leukaemia in 2012 which forced him to retire from the game.
Many Villa fans on Twitter expressed how the 35-year-old is an inspirational figure after winning his battle and returning to the game.
Petrov will now step up his pursuit of earning a Villa contract as the club head out to their pre-season tour of Austria this month. There is no surprise that many fans feel he should be given a permeant deal.
The training pictures also show left-back Jordan Amavi returning to action following an eight month lay-off and as expected the Villa fans were hoping he stays at the club and helps them push for promotion to the Premier League.
New boy Tommy Elphick was also pictured training today with one Villa supporter demanding he be made captain ahead of the forthcoming Championship campaign.
Here are some of their messages on Twitter:
Make it happen, Roberto.
