Fiorentina have submitted a formal bid for Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez, according to a report.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that Fiorentina manager Paulo Sousa is keen to add a defensive midfielder to his squad, with Sanchez one of his targets.
Di Marzio revealed later on Tuesday afternoon that the Italian giants had tabled an offer to Villa to sign Sanchez initially on loan with an option to buy him permanently.
It is said that Villa are weighing up the bid as they consider whether to offload the 30-year-old, who they signed for £5million in 2014 from La Liga side Elche.
Sanchez has also been a transfer target for French side Marseille in recent weeks, but a deal has failed to materialise.
It is said that former QPR boss Sousa wants Fiorentina to add a midfielder to protect the defence and the club have set their sights on the Colombia international.
Following Villa’s relegation he is one of a number of players manager Roberto Di Matteo could sell in order to trim the club’s wage bill.
Meanwhile, midfield anchorman Idrissa Gueye is set to move to Premier League side Everton after the Merseyside club activated his £7,1 million release clause, while teammate Jordan Veretout could be set for a loan move to France.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, manager Roberto Di Matteo has revived his interest in this highly-rated £23million striker duo.
