Burnley are eyeing a swoop for Aston Villa defensive midfielder Ashley Westwood, according to a report.
Midlands newspaper The Express and Star claim the Lancashire club are understood to have made an enquiry for the 26-year-old.
The former Crewe man is currently earning in the region of £35,000-a-week and the Turf Moor club are understood to want Westwood to take a cut on these wages in order to join the club.
Burnley made an immediate return to the Premier League in the recently completed season as they topped the Championship after suffering relegation in the 2014-15 season.
They are now looking for experienced top flight players so that they don’t suffer the same fate as they did a year a go.
Westwood joined Villa in a £2million move from Crew in 2013 and signed a new five-year-deal last August.
During the 2015-16 season the combative midfielder starred in 37 fixtures across all competitions, but he was unable to help the Villains fight off relegation.
It is understood that new manager Roberto Di Matteo will wait until pre-season before making any decisions on his current squad, though Westwood is likely to be among those he would ideally like to keep.
