Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye is not interested in a move back to France but is open to leaving the club this summer, according to a report.

Midlands publication the Birmingham Mail claim that the midfielder has been the subject of interest from French giants Marseille.

It is said that the Senegal international has no interest in leaving England for Ligue 1 and would only swap Villa Park for a Premier League destination.

The central midfielder joined the Villains last summer in a £9million move, penning a four-year contract, and the 26-year-old was one of the better performers in a forgettable campaign for the club.

But Gueye, who is known as ‘Gana’ by supporters, has a £7.1million release clause in his deal.

He has represented his national side in 29 matches since making his international debut in 2011.

He starred in 38 encounters for the Villa Park club in all competitions, but was unable to help the club fight off relegation from the Premier League.

Despite winning the French league title and the Coupe de France with Lille during his time in France, the midfielder is not interested in a return to the country.

In other Aston Villa news, the Villains have opened talks with Juventus to sign goalkeeper Nicola Leali.
