Gary Gardner believes Aston Villa’s young attackers Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Andre Green have bright futures at the club after they impressed during a 3-0 win over Cambridge.

Villa continued their preparations for the new campaign with a comfortable win, with striker Hepburn-Murphy getting on the scoresheet to take his tally to two goals in pre-season.

Defender Gardner also scored on the night and will be hoping to cement his own place in the team ahead of the new season, but was hugely impressed with his fellow teammates.

“Rushian’s got a bright future,” Garnder told the club website. “He’s a good lad.

“He works hard and he’s probably one of the best youngsters I’ve seen coming through as a striker.

“He’s lightning quick and has a massive future at the club. Rushian and Andre Green are only young but they’re learning fast.

“Everyone is getting behind them, putting their arms around them and they both have a bright future.”

Villa kick off their Championship campaign against Sheffield Wednesday on 7 August.

Whether 17-year-old Hepburn-Murphy or 18-year-old winger Green will be involved is still unclear, but with Villa now in the second tier, their chances may come quicker than expected.

Villa will be eager to ensure their stay in the Championship is short-lived and Roberto Di Matteo’s priority will be to lead them straight back into the Premier League.

In other Villa news, this flop has started another pre-season game which could mean Di Matteo wants him to stay.
