Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has slammed Aston Villa by labelling them an “atrocious” team.

The Midlands club suffered their third successive league defeat against Everton on Tuesday night.

The 3-1 loss was punctuated by a fan walk-out in the 74th minute as supporters left the stadium with Villa three goals down at the time.

The result has left Villa rock bottom of the table, nine points from safety and speaking to Sky Sports on Thursday, Thompson sympathised with the fans.

“OUTTHEDOOR74 was the big talking point before the game with all the Villa fans heading out.

“I was surprised they didn’t walk out after four minutes because they capitulated.

“The only joy they got was a Rudy Gestede late goal, but it was another dreadful performance and even playing with three centre-backs, they were all over the place.

“Defensively this season, Villa have been atrocious,” said Thompson.

Randy Lerner

Under pressure: Owner Randy Lerner has been the target of anger by fans

Villa have just two league wins under manager Remi Garde since the Frenchman took over in November and have managed only three victories all season.

In 28 league games Villa have already conceded 51 goals while scoring just 22.

In their last ten league games Villa have let in 19 goals, including six at home in the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on February 14th.

OUTHEDOOR74, the movement behind the walk-out at Villa Park, issued a statement on Thursday outlining that protests would continue until owner Randy Lerner was removed from the club.

Villa’s next game is a trip to Manchester City on Saturday.
