Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has strongly suggested that he could be set to end his 11-season stay at his boyhood club.
The forward’s future has been shrouded in doubt since he was stripped of the captaincy last season following a series of disciplinary issues.
Agbonlahor had been offered a second chance by new manager Roberto Di Matteo, who stated that all his players would be given the opportunity to impress him when speaking to the Birmingham Mail.
But the 29-year-old plunged his Villa dropped a major hint on his Instagram account on Saturday afternoon, by posting an image of the Villa badge above a message wishing his team-mates the best of luck for Sunday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday and for the coming season.
Fans reacted to Agbonlahor’s post by wishing him the best for the future, as they interpreted the Instagram as a clear hint that his time at Villa Park is over.
Other supporters are likely to be delighted by the possible exit of the 29-year-old as they want the underperformers of last season to leave Villa Park.
Agbonlahor summed up Villa’s miserable campaign last season, scoring just one goal in all competitions despite making 18 appearances as his boyhood club were dismally relegated to the Championship with just 17 points.
While nothing is confirmed, it seems highly unlikely that Agbonlahor will feature against last season’s play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday.
