Stiliyan Petrov will not be offered an Aston Villa playing contract – but has been given the chance to stay on at the club in a different role, the club announced on Wednesday night.

Supporters on Twitter paid a warm tribute to their ex-captain and described him as a hero even though his dream of a playing return at Villa Park is ended.
