Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Norwich left-back Robbie Brady, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail are reporting that new manager Roberto Di Matteo is keen to bolster his back line with the Republic of Ireland defender.
It is said West Brom are also interested in Brady, who is currently in France with Martin O’Neill’s team, but Villa are confident they are favourites to sign the 24-year-old.
However a move could prove hard to secure, as like Aston Villa, Norwich are also looking to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and the Canaries may be reluctant to sell to their Championship rivals.
New Villa owner Tony Xia has made his ambitions clear going into the window, with Di Matteo set to be handed a transfer kitty of more than £30million to secure an instant Premier League return.
The Canaries may be looking to cut the wage bill after their relegation to the Championship and Brady could be one of the names that departs Carrow Road this summer.
Brady starred in 36 of Norwich’s Premier League games in the 2015-16 season, scoring three goals and supplying two assists. The Irishman can also play at left midfield in addition to his regular his left-back position.
In other Aston Villa news, Reading have rejected two bids from an unnamed club for Villa target Aaron Tshibola.
