Carlos Sanchez is closing in on a move from Aston Villa to Fiorentina, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that the two clubs held talks on Saturday about a deal for the midfielder and are now working on the final details of the transfer.

It is said that Sanchez could initially move on a season-long loan for a fee of £211,000, with an obligation for Fiorentina to buy him permanently next summer for £2.5million.

Fiorentina have also held talks with the Colombia international, 30, about his wages.

The Italian club are increasingly hopeful of clinching a deal for Sanchez, who signed for Villa for £5million in 2014 from La Liga side Elche.

It is said that former QPR boss Sousa wants Fiorentina to add a midfielder to protect the defence and the club have set their sights on the Colombia international.

Following Villa's relegation he is one of a number of players manager Roberto Di Matteo could sell in order to trim the club's wage bill.
