Carlos Sanchez is closing in on a move from Aston Villa to Fiorentina, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that the two clubs held talks on Saturday about a deal for the midfielder and are now working on the final details of the transfer.

It is said that Sanchez could initially move on a season-long loan for a fee of £211,000, with an obligation for Fiorentina to buy him permanently next summer for £2.5million.

Fiorentina have also held talks with the Colombia international, 30, about his wages.

The Italian club are increasingly hopeful of clinching a deal for Sanchez, who signed for Villa for £5million in 2014 from La Liga side Elche.

Sanchez has also been a transfer target for French side Marseille in recent weeks, but a deal has failed to materialise.

It is said that former QPR boss Sousa wants Fiorentina to add a midfielder to protect the defence and the club have set their sights on the Colombia international.

Following Villa’s relegation he is one of a number of players manager Roberto Di Matteo could sell in order to trim the club’s wage bill.

Idrissa Gueye moved to Premier League side Everton earlier this week after the Merseyside club activated his £7,1 million release clause, while teammate Jordan Veretout could be set for a loan move to France.

,In other Aston Villa news, Tony Xia has made an astonishing new claim about the club’s incoming transfer plans.
