Simon Mignolet is set to axed by Liverpool against Hull on Saturday, according to a report.

The Mirror claim Jurgen Klopp is preparing to hand Loris Karius his Premier League debut in the fixture at Anfield against the newly-promoted club.

It is said that long-time No1 Mignolet is set to be cast out in the cold as summer signing Karius is given the chance to nail down a regular starting spot.

The report states Karius was in line to be the first-choice goalkeeper after arriving from Bundesliga side Mainz in the summer transfer window and seemed certain to begin the season in goal.

But a broken hand then sidelined him and offered Mignolet an unlikely lifeline.

The Belgian was in goal for Liverpool’s opening six matches of the season and conceded eight goals, keeping just the single clean sheet in the 5-0 League Cup hammering of Burton.

Karius, 23, made his debut for the Merseysiders on Tuesday as they swept Championship outfit Derby aside to secure a 3-0 win and safe passage to the last 16 of the League Cup.

The Mirror claim manager Klopp suggested on Thursday that Karius will keep his place for the Premier League visit of Hull.

“Let’s go through a few different kinds of ways in which we could see it,” said Klopp, as quoted by the Mirror. “Do we say, ‘Okay, Loris had the game against Derby. Was it a real game for a keeper? Not really. So give him a home game’ for example.

“We could say, ‘There is an international break coming up, so give Loris a home game and Swansea away’ and then both have had the chance to show what they are.

“It’s not in doubt, it’s not a test.

“I accept again the circumstances over the keeper’s position. But in the end it’s 100% positive — Liverpool FC will have a very strong goalkeeper on Saturday between the posts.”
