Ayoze Perez has described Newcastle fans as “amazing” after more than 40,000 tickets were sold for Tuesday night’s game against Preston.

The Toon face Simon Grayson’s Championship outfit in the fourth round of the EFL Cup, as they look to continue their fine form following Saturday’s 3-0 win against Ipswich.

Spaniard Perez revealed his admiration for the Toon Army on his personal Twitter account, as Rafa Benitez’s men look to secure their passage into the quarter finals.

Perez is likely to feature in Benitez’s side after excelling in the Toon’s 3-0 triumph over Mick McCarthy’s side.

The former Tenerife forward score twice and set up Matt Ritchie’s fine finish to secure Newcastle’s fifth consecutive win, which has seen them move three points clear at the top of the Championship.

Perez, 23, was also named in the EFL Team of the Week alongside the likes of Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce and Everton loanee Russ Griffiths.

A win against Jaap Stam’s Royals on Tuesday night at St. James’ Park could see the Toon face Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United in the final eight.

Since his £2million move to Tyneside, the versatile Perez has scored 18 goals in 88 league and cup encounters, adding a further five in assists.

In other Newcastle news, this midfielder has revealed his decision to leave this Premier League side in the summer was to test himself.
