Ayoze Perez has identified that Newcastle will only beat Cardiff if they “work hard” against Neil Warnock’s side.
The Toon will be looking to secure their eighth win in a row, as they play host to the Welsh outfit on Saturday afternoon.
Perez, who has found the net three times in his last three appearances, also revealed on his personal Instagram account that the Championship encounter against Cardiff was of vital importance.
The Spaniard has been one of the victims of Rafa Benitez’s strenuous rotation policy, which has seen him drop in and out of the side during the Magpies’ campaign.
However, 23-year-old forward Perez had started against Ipswich and Preston, scoring three times but found himself surprisingly dropped to the bench last Saturday despite his goalscoring form.
Now, Perez will be hoping to play a larger part than his five-minute cameo role last weekend, as they look to stretch their lead at the top of the Championship to six points.
Benitez’s side will do just that, if they can secure three points against Cardiff and Brighton fail to pick up three points away at playoff contenders Bristol City.
In other Newcastle news, this fringe star has dropped a selection hint ahead of the Toon’s clash against the Bluebirds.
