Mario Balotelli has responded to comments made by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher with an amusing Twitter post.

The controversial forward moved to Nice in a free transfer from the Reds on deadline day and drew comments from Carragher.

“Balotelli on a free is still paying over the odds by Nice,” said Carragher on his social media account.

However, on Saturday Balotelli has now responded to Carragher’s message on his personal Twitter account with a post calling the retired defender turned football a pundit a “bad player, but a wonderful hater.”

The 26-year-old Italy international was frozen out by manager Jurgen Klopp and he was kept away from the first team during the summer’s pre-season.

His agent, Mino Raiola, defended his client in the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by The Livepool Echo.

“Mario has been exemplary. He never complained about training alone. To say that it was wrong of Klopp would be an understatement. He was a piece of s*** about it.”

Balotelli was brought to Anfield by manager Brendan Rodgers in a £16million transfer from AC Milan.

During his two-year stay at the club he played in just 28 fixtures scoring four goals.

The once thought of promising young player has struggled to recapture the form he showed at the beginning of his career, as he also spent last season on loan at AC Milan where he scored just three goals in 23 matches.

In other Liverpool news, West Brom have handed former Reds midfielder Mohamed Sissoko a start in Saturday’s friendly against Indian Premier League side Delhi Dynamos.
