Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Liverpool play-maker Philippe Coutinho and are set to name him as their number one summer transfer target, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Sport splashed an image of the Brazilian on their front page and claimed the Catalan club are preparing a whopping £65 million bid in an attempt to lure him to the club.

The report came immediately after Coutinho’s stunning performance against Argentina when he netted the first goal for Brazil within 25 minutes as they went on to win 3-0.

It was a sensational strike and Coutinho celebrated the goal on Instagram after the game by posting an image of himself and Barcelona star, Neymar.

It is believed his friendship with compatriot Neymar could be the key to luring him to the Nou Camp and the Barcelona forward has already expressed his desire to play alongside Coutinho for Sky Sports.

Barcelona are prepared to make the £65 million bid though it is believed Liverpool will hold out for much more given Coutinho’s importance to the team.

The number 10 has already scored five goals and notched up five assists in the Premier League so far this season and as Liverpool top the table, he has attracted attention from Real Madrid as well as Barcelona.
