Bayern Munich are set to make an approach for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror claim the German outfit are interested in replacing Carlo Ancelotti with Klopp after they have made a poor start to the campaign.

Klopp is reportedly the Bundesliga giants’ number one target because of his expertise in developing players and his system of high-pressing and energetic football.

Bayern currently sit in second place in the league table, trailing RB Leipzig by three points, and Ancelotti’s position came under further threat when his side suffered a shock 3-2 defeat against Rostov in Wednesday evening’s Champions League clash.

Ancelotti has introduced a rigid, organised approach since joining in the summer and it is believed the club are growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of success they style is bringing.

It is very different to the free-flowing style honed by former boss Pep Guardiola and the club are reportedly targeting Klopp as the man to bring that approach back.

There is also a growing concern that Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben will need to be replaced soon and they hope to employ a manager capable of coaching a group of young players who could become their replacements in the near future.

In 13 months, Klopp has already revitalised Liverpool’s standard of football and they currently sit in second place in the league table, just one point behind Chelsea.

Football Insider verdict:

Klopp has already pledged to stay with Liverpool in the long-term after signing a new contract in the summer and he appears to be enjoying his affiliation with the club so far. He has the backing of the fans, the players and the owners and seemingly has control over transfers. A move back to his homeland with mighty Bayern will have its attractions but he has already proven his worth in the Bundesliga during his time with Borussia Dortmund and it’s unlikely he will abandon his project in the Premier League any time soon. This does not appear to be an issue that should overly concern Reds fans. He is one of the best managers in the world who has revitalised one of Europe’s grandest clubs so it’s normal for him to be linked with envious competitors.

In other Liverpool news, the club could face a battle to keep hold of this star midfielder too.
