BBC Sport pundit and Football Focus presenter Dan Walker singled out Joel Matip as the player who impressed him in the match between Liverpool and Tottenham on Saturday.

A first-half penalty which was calmly put away by James Milner was followed by a strike from left-back Danny Rose to ensure a share of the spoils at White Hart Lane.

However, it was the Liverpool centre-back Matip who impressed Walker, and he took to his personal Twitter account to sing his praises.

The match was Matip’s first league appearance for Liverpool after he started in the midweek EFL Cup match against Burton, following an injury picked up in pre-season.

The 25-year-old started alongside Dejan Lovren and the Cameroon international played the full 90 minutes.

The defender’s only two low points were the conceded goal and a booking picked up on the 94th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Matip was brought to the club on a free transfer, as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve on the Reds eighth place finish from last campaign.

The Premier League giants have four points from their opening three matches, after an opening day victory against Arsenal and a shock defeat against Burnley in their first two games.

In other Liverpool team news, TalkSport host Andy Goldstein has taken to Twitter to blast Jurgen Klopp’s decision to bring Daniel Sturridge on after 88 minutes in Saturday’s match.
