Martin Keown has claimed he has not seen anybody of the quality of Alexis Sanchez since Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Forward Sanchez opened the scoring for Arsene Wenger’s side and provided an assist, as the Gunners thrashed Antonio Conte’s Chelsea 3-0 on Saturday evening.
The 27-year-old used his pace and power to trouble the Chelsea backline, including putting defender Gary Cahill under pressure which led to the first goal.
Match of the day pundit Keown, who played with Henry during his time at the north London club, praised the Chilean attacker for his display at the weekend by comparing his qualities to Henry.
“It was a fantastic team performance but this fella (Sanchez) is the icing on the cake. I haven’t seen anybody of his quality for years,” Keown told Match of the Day.
“[Thierry] Henry was the last one I saw with this sort of pace and the sort of quality he has. It creates panic in the defence and you just cannot take risks with him.”
Frenchman Henry lifted two Premier League crowns with the Gunners, scoring 226 goals in 368 appearances in all competitions.
Sanchez has scored 47 goals in 100 appearances for Arsenal, one fewer than club legend Henry.
This season Sanchez has scored four goals and provided three as Wenger’s side sit third in the league table with 13 points after six games.
In other Arsenal team news, a BBC pundit claims these three players can drive Arsenal to the Premier League title.
